The atmosphere was fully charged as a whole lot was at stake in the UEFA Conference League finals between Greek side Olympiacos and Italian side Fiorentina.

At the AEK Arena in Athens, Olympiacos had a slight upper hand because they were playing the game in Greece even though it was on their enemy’s territory.

Fiorentina was the better side in the first half after creating many chances but failed to score from any.

Vicenzo Italiano’s side’s dominance in the second half was not as intense as in the second half with Olympiacos being able to reduce their threat.

The game ended goalless in the 90 minutes with an extra 30 minutes needed. In the extra time, the Olympiacos fans lifted their voices which lifted the Greek side.

Moroccan striker Ayoub El Kaabi made history in the 116th minute by leaping to meet an excellent cross and steered a fantastic header past the Fiorentina goalkeeper inside the left post to give Olympiacos the lead.

In Olympiacos’ 99-year history, it was the first time they have won a European trophy as they became the first Greek team to win a trophy from Europe.

Spanish manager Jose Medilibar who won the Europa League in the 2022-23 season for Sevilla won another European trophy in succession.

The strike from the former Wydad Athletic Club striker, Ayoub El Kaabi, was his 11th in the competition making him the top scorer in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
