Black Stars head coach Otto Addo made history on Sunday night after becoming the first head coach to qualify Ghana to the World Cup on two occasions.
The German-born former Ghana midfielder led Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, becoming the fourth coach to take Ghana to the pinnacle of World football, after Ratomir Dujkovic, Milovan Rajevac, and Kwesi Appiah.
The 50-year-old Hamburg-born former Dortmund midfielder repeated his 2022 feat by beating Comoros 1-0, thanks to Kudus’ second-half strike, helping Ghana to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be played in North America.
Otto Addo was excited after the 1-0 defeat of Comoros when asked about how proud he is to make history, “For me, personally, surely it’s [qualifying to the World Cup twice in a row] a big achievement, but for me, to be honest, I think more about us.”
He continued, “It’s good for us, for everyone, for every Ghanaian, it’s good for the players, not only for me, so this is the most important thing”.
Otto Addo seems to have weathered the storm he faced last year when he failed to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON for Ghana. The team failed to win a game against Niger, Sudan and Angola in six attempts.
It led to Ghanaians calling for his sacking, but after leading the Black Stars to their 5th appearance at the FIFA World Cup, Ghanaians are now quiet because their dream has come through.
