Accra Lions could not afford to fail to win all three points against Basake Holy Stars on Saturday afternoon.

The 2023-24 Ghana Premier League’s runners-up have been enduring a very horrible season, having been in the relegation zone for most part of the season.

The visit of Basake Holy Stars presented Accra Lions with the finest opportunity to win and move away from the relegation zone.

Holy Stars shocked Accra Lions through Tweneboah Prince’s 5th-minute opener. The early goal disrupted the relegation-threatened Lions’ plans.

After losing 2-0 to Samartex last Sunday at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, conceding an early goal against Basake Holy Stars was not the best of moments for the strugglers.

The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Holy Stars even though Accra Lions were far better than Holy Stars.

After constant pressure in the second half, Accra Lions finally deservedly equalised through Musa Hamzata in the 70th minute. This is the goal they needed after constantly tormenting Holy Syars from all angles.

Young Nigerian forward Lucky Nwafor scored the all-important goal for Accra Lions in the 77th minute to put them in front. The 2-1 victory has helped Lions move out of the relegation zone and is now a point ahead of 15th-placed Karela United, who plays tomorrow against Aduana Stars.

The relegation battle fight has commenced for Accra Lions, and they must find a way to win more points in their next four fixtures against Asante Kotoko (H), Heart of Lions (A), Bechem United (H) and Nations FC (A).
