The Super Clash, Ghana’s version of the Spanish El Clásico, has always divided families, friends and loved ones. This is the fixture which brings back memories whenever the time is up. Ghanaian football is not as glamorous as it used to be, but this game just brings memories.

The first game of the 2025-26 season will see two coaches who did not start last season for the two teams.

Two friends who are separated by six years will square off once again, with Mas-Ud Didi Dramani handling Accra Hearts of Oak and Abdul-Karim Zito, coaching Asante Kotoko.

Abdul-karim Zito replaced Prosper Ogum Narteh as the head coach of Asante Kotoko in April 2025 after a series of unwanted results. The ex-Dreams FC’s head coach was undoubtedly the impeccable replacement for Ogum, whom the fans and the board had lost faith in.

Zito surprisingly reached the semi-finals of the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup when managing the minnows, Dreams FC.

After punching above his weight with the Still Believe, the 65-year-old immediately became the hottest coach in the country, hence getting the Fabulous hot job.

He instantly won the love of the fans by winning the MTN FA Cup for the Porcupine Warriors. Karim-Zito also won the 2025 Presidential Cup and the Super Cup with wins over Hearts of Oak and Bibiani Gold Stars, respectively.

Karim-Zito and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani learned a thing or two from each other, undoubtedly when they were working together for Kotoko.

Zito was the youth coach of Asante Kotoko when Didi Dramani was dominating the Ghana Premier League between 2012 and 2014 as the main boss for the Porcupine Warriors.

“The telepathy between us worked a lot because when you look at the result we chalked, it tells you the way we were at that time,” Zito said. The understanding, friendship and admiration for each other have existed for a long and nothing shows it will fade until death separates them.

“We are brothers, we talk a lot, but we are going there with the mindset of beating him,” Zito stated, showing his readiness to battle and sink his brother.

After 15 15-year career as a player for Real Tamale United and Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani embarked on a coaching career where he commenced with Guan from 2004 to 2009, a team he founded after studying Physical Education at the University of Education in Winneba. Right To Dream Academy’s job followed before working as the assistant head coach and main coach for Black Queens and Black Princesses.

A trip to Kumasi in 2012 was the pinnacle of Didi’s coaching career. He won two Ghana Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Super Cup between 2012 and 2014.

In 2019, Didi was appointed as part of the coaching staff for Danish side Nordsjaelland. His resume is so rich that he could easily be one of Ghana’s coaches who can boast of a wonderful CV. He has served as the assistant coach for the Black Stars recently.

He has already faced his ‘brother’ Zito since he was appointed Hearts of Oak’s head coach in the Presidential Cup and the GHALCA Top 4, where he lost 2-1 and won 2-0.

The two have smiled at each other perfectly. The two have embraced each other perfectly. They have cracked jokes to show how they love and admire each other.

All will be over when Karim-Zito’s Asante Kotoko travels to the capital to face their long-standing rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak.

“We’re going into the game with the mindset of defeating Hearts of Oak at the end of the day,” Karim-Zito said on Asante Kotoko TV. You could read and sense the determination in Zito’s eyes when talking about the game. His side is ready to make it five league games without a defeat against Phobia as they have won three and drawn one in the last two seasons.

It will be purely business when the two veteran tacticians clash in the Super Clash on Sunday afternoon in Accra.

The bromance will be suspended for two hours in search of the precious three points. Expect it to be resumed soon after the games, as the two coaches will be giggling and sharing ideas on how things unfolded.
