Asante Kotoko sacked head coach Prosper Ogum Narteh after a disastrous run of three winless games, which suddenly killed the club’s chances of winning the Ghana Premier League. Prosper was sacked and replaced by Dreams FC’s head coach, Abdul Karim Zito. The genius tactician was not confirmed as the permanent head coach but rather as temporary for the rest of the season.

Speculations are rife in the Ghanaian media about who exactly could lead the Porcupine Warriors for the 2025-26 season. Head of the club’s communications, Sarfo Duk, in an interview on Akoma FM, disclosed that no decision has been made concerning a new manager and the club is shocked by how the media are mentioning names.

“We (management) have not considered employing a substantive head coach. We are startled by the names being circulated in the media, as we have not had any discussions with any coaches, Duku said.

Berekum Chelsea’s head coach, Samuel Boadu, has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Prosper Ogum. Former Black Stars head coach CK Akunnor has also been in the news this week due to the Kotoko’s vacant head coach position.

“In football, anything is possible. Karim Zito could take over as head coach, or a new coach could be chosen, but this would only happen after the season and after multiple talks with the coaches and essential stakeholders,” he added.

Many prefer Zito to the aforementioned names because he has the experience, and Duku hinted at the veteran coach being appointed as the club’s permanent coach.

“Our goal of winning the double remains intact, and that is our primary focus right now,” he concluded.

Asante Kotoko defeated Berekum Chelsea 1-0 in the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup and booked a place in the finals against Golden Kick. Regarding the league, they have four games to end the season but are five points behind the leaders, Bibiani Gold Stars. The club is still targeting the double, but it looks extremely difficult as Nations FC and Heart of Lions are ahead of them on the league table.
