The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has issued a stern warning to all chiefs within the Ashanti Kingdom, declaring that any traditional leader found engaging the services of land guards will face immediate destoolment.

Speaking with firm resolve, the Asantehene emphasised that the use of land guards—often associated with violence, intimidation, and unlawful land dealings—undermines the dignity and authority of chieftaincy.

He stressed that such practices are not only illegal but also tarnish the image of the Ashanti Kingdom, which is built on discipline, order, and respect for traditional governance.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made it clear that the institution of chieftaincy must not be tainted by associations with criminal elements.

He reminded chiefs that they are custodians of the land and must resolve land disputes through lawful and customary means, not through the hiring of thugs.

The Asantehene’s pronouncement serves as both a directive and a moral call, urging traditional leaders to uphold the values of peace, justice, and accountability.

He warned that any chief who defies this order will not be spared, regardless of their status or influence.

This declaration comes amid growing concerns about land-related violence and the increasing involvement of land guards in property disputes across parts of Ghana.

By taking a strict stance, the Asantehene seeks to restore public confidence in the traditional leadership system and reinforce the rule of law within the Ashanti Kingdom.

His message is unambiguous: the chieftaincy institution must remain a pillar of integrity, and any chief who compromises that standard by employing land guards will be stripped of their stool without hesitation.
