The Obuasi community has been left in shock following the brutal murder of 42-year-old Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso, popularly known as Yaw Danso, at his residence in a suburb of the mining town.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, 2025.

According to eyewitness accounts and statements from the victim’s wife, Comfort Mensah, Yaw Danso, an AngloGold Ashanti employee stationed in Guinea, had returned to Ghana about two weeks ago for a short visit and was preparing to resume work abroad.

Mensah recounted that at approximately 1:30 a.m., the couple’s home was approached by someone claiming to be Danso’s younger brother, who requested medication, allegedly due to illness.

She believes this was a ruse orchestrated by the attackers to gain access to the home. When the deceased opened the door, one of the assailants struck him on the head with a heavy object, inflicting fatal injuries.

In the ensuing chaos, Comfort Mensah ran into the washroom to seek help from neighbours but was overpowered, tied up, and threatened by the intruders.

The attackers proceeded to steal cash amounting to GHS2,600, two laptops, two mobile phones, and two Bluetooth speakers.

They also absconded with the keys to the deceased’s car, which was parked on the property.

The younger brother of the deceased has since been arrested and is assisting the police with ongoing investigations.

An emotional Comfort Mensah has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted, emphasizing that justice must be served.
