Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, has been suspended for four matches due to reported misconduct during his team’s defeat against Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The federation, referred to as FECAFOOT, announced on Wednesday that it acknowledged the disciplinary committee of the Confederation of African
Football’s decision to suspend its president and impose a $20,000 fine.
However, it stated that this decision does not have a clear justification.
FECAFOOT also expressed concerns about the fast-tracked process that led to this decision, questioning whether it met the essential standards for a fair trial.
CAF announced on Monday that it is looking into the match incidents that occurred during the quarterfinals between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria.
CAF did not mention any particular events from the Morocco-Cameroon match, but the most notable occurrence was Eto’o’s angry gestures directed at Moroccan official Fouzi Lekjaa, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe also present nearby.
The Cameroonian FA said, “FECAFOOT restates its strong support for its president and its dedication to maintaining the principles of fair disciplinary justice.”
