Fresh controversy has emerged from the long-running dispute surrounding Senator Ned Munir Nwoko and Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, following the arrest of Izuegbu Anthonet, popularly known as Ann, who is widely described as a close associate of the actress.

The arrest has been linked to a series of allegations ranging from the facilitation of an alleged illegal abortion to criminal defamation, according to a statement released by the Senator’s camp.

In the statement, representatives of Senator Nwoko said Ms. Izuegbu was taken into custody after investigations by law enforcement agencies into claims that she aided and abetted an alleged illegal abortion involving Regina Daniels during her marriage to the lawmaker.

The camp insisted that the alleged act contravenes existing laws and maintained that the incident is formally documented, despite what it described as attempts by some parties to dispute the timing and circumstances surrounding the event.

According to the statement, investigators believe Izuegbu played a direct and active role in the alleged incident, which now forms part of broader ongoing investigations.

While the Senator’s camp asserted that the matter is being handled within the framework of the law, it acknowledged that, as of the time of reporting, no official charge sheet had been publicly released by the authorities.

Beyond the abortion-related claims, the arrest has also been linked to allegations of criminal defamation.

Ms. Izuegbu is accused of making public statements alleging that Senator Nwoko physically assaulted his wife, Laila Nwoko, resulting in a miscarriage.

The Senator has categorically denied these claims, describing them as false, malicious and unsupported by any medical or legal evidence.

The Senator’s camp further alleged that the arrest followed a recent social media post attributed to Izuegbu, in which she reportedly issued threats and repeated what were described as defamatory accusations against the Senator and members of his family.

According to the statement, these actions prompted formal complaints to law enforcement agencies, leading to her detention.

In addressing public reaction, the Senator’s camp stressed that the case should not be trivialised or reduced to an online feud. It maintained that the matter is strictly a law enforcement and legal issue, urging the public to refrain from speculation and allow investigators to carry out their duties without interference or misinformation.

As of the time of publication, Ms. Izuegbu had not released a public statement, nor had her legal representatives formally responded to the allegations or the circumstances surrounding her arrest.

Meanwhile, the case adds another layer to the highly publicised and increasingly complex dispute involving Senator Nwoko, Regina Daniels and individuals connected to their turbulent relationship.
