Liverpool was smashed into pieces on Saturday afternoon when they visited the resurgent Manchester City. A hat-trick from Erling Haaland and a sumptuous strike from Semenyo condemned the visitors to a disastrous 4-0 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool lacked the will to fight, causing fear and panic among the fans ahead of the crucial part of the season.
Speaking to the press after the game, the captain of Liverpool, Virgil Van Dijk, expressed his disappointment in the results.
“We let our fans down today. It’s mentally very tough at the moment, I must say.”
When asked whether the players were doing enough for the under-pressure manager, Van Dijk said: “Well, it’s a together thing, isn’t it? Obviously, he’s responsible as the manager, but we are the ones on the pitch that have to do it.”
