The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced that, starting from Monday, 13th April 2026, citizens in Kumasi will be fined or possibly imprisoned if caught dumping refuse in the streets of Oseikrom.

Oseikrom looks like a refuse dump, as nearly 90% of the suburbs are filled with dirt, all due to ignorance and lawlessness on the part of everybody.

Principal places like Ketejia, Adum, Amakom, Asafo, Oforikrom, Tanoso, Tech, Santasi, Ashtown, Bantama, and Stadium, among many others, are losing their once unimaginable appeal due to illegal waste dumping.

As part of the plans to help Kumasi return to its Garden City days, the KMA, led by the mayor, Richard Ofori Agyeman, in a press conference on Thursday, 9th April, announced the punishment that will be meted out to offenders.

“Offenders would be taken to court and could face fines or imprisonment if found guilty,” King Zuba said.

He urged the citizenry to be responsible by reporting whoever they come across littering or dumping waste in the neighbourhood for a handsome reward.

“Residents are to support the exercise by reporting offenders to the nearest police station.

“Informants whose reports lead to successful prosecutions will receive half of the fines imposed on offenders.

Zuba continued, “Traders, particularly those operating along pavements, must cooperate with authorities to ensure the success of the initiative”.

The decision to introduce fines and probably jail terms for the people in Kumasi who are in love with just throwing waste anyhow is much welcome.

The KMA is extremely confident that the announcement made to punish offenders will help ensure a very clean and healthy Kumasi, which will benefit every soul living in or around the Ashanti Regional capital.
