What an incredible end to the match in Munich between Serbia and Slovenia. Luka Jovic kept his very best until the 96th minute as he outjumped everyone and powerfully headed the ball to the right post to steal a point for Serbia.
Slovenia was broken while Serbia suddenly came alive. It was a game that neutrals believed was going to be extremely entertaining and it surely lived up to their expectations.
Slovenia drew 1-1 against Denmark in their opening game while Serbia was narrowly beaten 1-0 by England.
The first half ended goalless but it was never dull as both sides created many goal scoring attempts. Serbia had 6 goal attempts with 2 on target. Slovenia surprisingly had 7 goal attempts with 2 also on target. This statistics shows how intense the first half was.
The second half continued with the same aggression and determination from both sides with Mitrovic missing many chances to put Serbia in front.
Slovenia’s Timi Max Elsnik assisted defender Zan Karnicnik to put the host ahead after a decent move. It was an important goal as it meant a lot to the Slovenia fans in the stands.
Serbia went all out searching for equaliser with former Frankfurt forward Luka Jovic who replaced Juventus’ bonafide striker Vlahovic even before Slovenia’s goal was the hero as he headed a corner from Ilic in the 95th minute to earn a very precious one point for Serbia.
Slovenia will rue the missed opportunity to record a victory as they defended well with Jan Oblak in post and Udinese’s Jaka Bijol leading the back 4.
The draw means both Serbia and Slovenia are still in the competition with both teams needing a victory in their final group games to progress to Round 16th.
