It was confirmed a couple of weeks ago that Ghana was going to name the final squad for the imminent World Cup on either 1st June or 2nd June, and the head coach, Carlos Queiroz, has honoured his promise.

28 players were named for the preparation game against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 2nd, where two were expected to be dropped.

On Monday evening, the 73-year-old veteran Portuguese coach released his final squad, with Hearts of Oak’s second goalkeeper Solomon Agbesi and Jong Ajax goalkeeper Paul Reverson failing to make the final list for North America.

Pafos’ centre-back Derrick Luckassen was called on Monday to replace the injured Alexander Djiku, who got injured during training with the Black Stars.

In-form Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo, alongside the veteran Jordan Ayew, lead the team in the attack. In midfield, Thomas Partey of Villarreal and Nordsjaelland’s talent star Caleb Yirenkyi were included. Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah were selected among the defence, as Hearts of Oak number one goalkeeper Benjamin Asare leads the goalkeeping department.

Stars like Mohammed Kudus and Mohammed Salisu are missing due to injuries.

Majeed Ahsimeru, Andre Ayew, Joseph Paintsil, Derrick Arthur Kohn and Razak Simpson all failed to make the trip to the USA, Canada and Mexico.
