The group stage came to an end on early Sunday morning when Algeria drew 3-3 against Austria. Argentina, at the same time, beat lowly Jordan to conclude the entire group stage. Of all the 48 teams, 32 historically progressed.

Qualified African teams!
* Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Senegal, D.R. Congo, South Africa.
90% of African teams advanced to the knockout rounds (9 out of 10 nations), with only Tunisia disastrously failing to advance.
Qualified South American teams!
Five out of the six teams that represented CONMEBOL qualified. Defending champions Argentina, five-time World Champions Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay all progressed, with only Uruguay exiting.
Qualified European sides!
Only three out of the 16 teams from Europe have been eliminated. Portugal, England, Croatia, Austria, Norway, France, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Switzerland will all compete in the r32. The Czech Republic, Scotland and Turkey all failed to progress.
Qualified teams from CONCACAF!
Co-hosts USA, Mexico and Canada all took advantage of the home crowd and progressed, as Curacao, Haiti and Panama all finished bottom of their groups.
Qualified teams from Asia
The Asian Confederation was represented with nine teams, but only two progressed. Japan and Australia are the only teams to have secured places in the knockout stage. South Korea, Qatar, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan and Uzbekistan all failed to qualify from their groups.
The Oceania confederation was solely represented by New Zealand, which failed to progress.

After three rounds of games, Argentina’s star man, Lionel Messi, leads the top scorers chart, having scored six goals.
