The Nsuta Circuit Court has directed media personality and political commentator Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah to appear in person before the court, stating that his physical presence is necessary for the proceedings despite reports of his injury.

The court’s decision was made even though his legal counsel was present to represent him.

According to the court, the nature of the case requires the personal attendance of the accused, making his appearance mandatory.

The directive comes amid reports that Okatakyie Afrifa sustained injuries during NPP’s constituency elections on Saturday, 11th July and is currently receiving medical attention.

However, the court maintained that his physical appearance remains essential for the continuation of the case.

What happened in Afigya Sekyere East?

“I am currently with Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, who has sustained a severe head wound with visible bleeding,” one reporter said.

“The media personality has reportedly received medical treatment after sustaining a serious-looking head injury during disturbances that led to his arrest at the New Patriotic Party’s constituency elections in Afigya Sekyere East.

Okatakyie and four other members of his team were severely beaten and sustained head injuries, and have since received treatment, per multiple reports on Saturday.

The NPP had ordered the Afigya Sekyere East election to be halted, following a High Court directive and a decision by the party itself.

However, Okatakyie reportedly decided to verify the situation for himself at the polling station, a move that led to the ensuing chaos.
