Afia Schwarzenegger reignites feud with Wontumi, celebrates conviction

Ghanaian media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has reacted publicly to the conviction and sentencing of Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following his 20-year prison sentence in an illegal mining case.

The outspoken social commentator took to social media shortly after the Accra High Court delivered its judgment on Monday, July 20, 2026, posting what many interpreted as a celebration of the verdict while reviving memories of her long-standing legal and personal feud with the influential NPP politician.

In a cryptic post shared on her social media platforms, Afia Schwarzenegger wrote: “THE LAW IS THE LAW… HIS NAME IS KOJO AGYEI, AND HE’S MY GUARDIAN ANGEL OF VENGEANCE… YOU’VE NOT SEEN ANYTHING YET!!!!”

Although she did not mention Chairman Wontumi by name, the timing of the message—coming immediately after news of his conviction became public—led many social media users to interpret it as a direct reaction to the court’s decision.

The latest development revives one of Ghana’s most publicised celebrity and political feuds, which has played out for years across television, radio programmes and social media platforms.

The conflict between Afia Schwarzenegger and Chairman Wontumi intensified after the media personality made allegations about the politician’s private life during a television programme. Wontumi subsequently sued her for defamation.

In 2022, the Accra High Court ruled in favour of Chairman Wontumi, holding that Afia Schwarzenegger’s statements were defamatory and awarding damages against her.

The dispute later escalated beyond the courtroom when Afia Schwarzenegger sought spiritual intervention at the Nogokpo shrine, a move that attracted widespread public attention and generated intense public debate.

Her legal troubles deepened after she was cited for contempt of court over her failure to comply with aspects of the court’s orders. Although she initially faced the possibility of imprisonment, the Tema High Court later imposed a GH¢60,000 fine and placed her on a 36-month good behaviour bond instead of a custodial sentence.

While Afia Schwarzenegger’s latest comments have reignited discussion about their bitter rivalry, Chairman Wontumi’s current conviction is unrelated to the earlier defamation dispute.

The Accra High Court found Chairman Wontumi guilty of offences linked to illegal mining activities. According to the court, he unlawfully assigned mineral rights and facilitated unlicensed mining operations on a concession in Ghana’s Western Region.

Following the judgment, the court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour and additionally imposed a fine of 10,000 penalty units, marking one of the most significant convictions involving a prominent political figure in Ghana’s fight against illegal mining.

Videos circulating on social media also showed the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman being escorted from the Accra High Court by security officers into a police vehicle after the sentence was handed down.
