The main broadcasters of Ghana Premier League, MTN FA Cup, Women’s League and Women’s FA Cup, Startimes, have brought to an end their marriage with Ghanaian domestic football.
Per reports, the main reason behind their decision to not renew the contract with Ghana’s Football Association has not been revealed.
The two parties signed a 4-year contract with exclusive rights for the coverage of Ghana’s domestic football under a $5.25 million agreement signed in 2020.
Earlier in the just-ended Ghana Premier League season, headline sponsors Betpawa ended their contract with the GFA after just a year as they did not give any reason why they left.
Ghana’s domestic football has struggled financially as the majority of the teams have been finding it difficult to pay their players and other employees leading to many unwanted stories about the league.
The Ghana Football Association has quickly opened their doors for interested broadcasters to register their interest and commence negotiations.
