Two individuals have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service, working alongside the National Signals Bureau (NSB), following separate incidents involving controversial statements about Prophet Mohammed.
The first suspect, 35-year-old Masud Abdullah, is an Imam who was apprehended after a recorded sermon surfaced showing him urging violence against anyone who disparages the Prophet.
Police say the sermon was delivered at a mosque in Ntensere, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
In a separate case, the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team took into custody Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, also known as Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, after footage emerged of him making disparaging and inflammatory remarks about the Prophet.
Both matters remain under active investigation, and the suspects will be processed in accordance with standard legal procedure.
The Police Service has used the occasion to caution the public, especially clergy, preachers, community figures, and social media users, that neither religious liberty nor freedom of speech provides cover for provoking violence or urging harm against others.
“Statements of this nature amount to criminal offences, and those responsible will be apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law”, the Ghana Police Service said.
