The Upper West Regional Police Command has apprehended five individuals believed to be members of an armed robbery gang terrorising parts of Wa West District and the Wa Municipality.
Those in custody have been identified as Amadu Moro, 35; Adama Yussif, 40; Iddrissu Adama, 35; Korika Issaka, 20; and Zakaria Brigi, 21.
According to police, the gang is suspected of carrying out a string of robberies in which victims were assaulted and slashed with machetes, then coerced into revealing their Mobile Money PINs.
Investigators say the criminals made off with roughly GH¢22,070 in cash, alongside a further GH¢3,274 withdrawn from victims’ MoMo accounts.
One victim, 52-year-old Nasiru Abdul Rahman, was wounded during the attacks and later died from his injuries.
Two suspected accomplices remain at large: Haruna, 30, said to be the gang’s armourer, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24. Police say efforts to track them down are ongoing.
