A joint intelligence-led operation by the Upper East Regional Police Command and the Military has led to the death of a wanted suspect and the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition in the Binduri District.
The operation was launched following a spate of shooting incidents and other related offences that have plagued the district in recent weeks, prompting security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those behind the violence.
During the swoop, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Isaka Sabani, alias “Culture,” sustained gunshot wounds and later died. Police say the assault rifle and ammunition were recovered directly from him.
Preliminary investigations have established that Sabani was a wanted man well before the operation, having been linked to a case of attempted murder and unlawful discharge of firearms reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026.
Security agencies also suspect him of involvement in a string of shooting incidents that rocked the district in the days that followed, including attacks recorded at the Agenda 111 project site, Aniisi, and Gumyoko on August 29, 30 and 31, respectively.
The Police Command said the recovery forms part of ongoing efforts to restore calm to the district amid heightened security concerns following the recent surge in gun violence.
Authorities have not disclosed whether other suspects linked to the incidents remain at large, but the operation is expected to feed into broader investigations into the recent unrest in the area.
The development comes as security agencies maintain a visible presence across Binduri and its surrounding communities, with officials reiterating their commitment to apprehending all persons involved in the recent firearm-related offences and restoring normalcy to the district.
