Under Otto Addo during the 2012 FIFA World Cup, Nkawkaw born George Antwi Boateng was the assistant coach for Ghana. He quit his role after the disastrous campaign in Ivory coast in the 2023 AFCON when he was the deputy for Chris Houghton.

The former Dutch international who was born in Ghana but bred in Netherlands has enough expertise to help Coventry City achieve their goal in the upcoming season.

Known for his days at Aston Villa, the 48-year-old played for Coventry City during the 1998/99 season before leaving for Villa Park. Boateng made 57 appearances and scored seven goals, including a memorable brace against his former side, Aston Villa.

Manager Mark Robins expressed his excitement for the new coaching staff. “We are very pleased to welcome George and Rhys to Coventry City. They both impressed us during the extensive recruitment process for this important role and each brings key skills to the football department.”

“Their experience and knowledge will greatly aid our work to maximize the performance and preparation of our team, both in advance of and on matchdays, and we are excited to begin working with them.”

Coventry City are determined to return to the English Premier League after two decades and over long absence.

In the just ended season, they narrowly missed out on the Championship play off slots.

Coventry City unluckily lost on penalties to Manchester United in the semi-finals of the English FA Cup after coming back from 3 goals down to level the score.
