A 52-year-old caterer, King Solomon Mensah Bonsu, has been arraigned before the Circuit Court in Accra over allegations of unlawful control of suspected narcotic drugs following an anti-narcotics operation at Tantra Hills in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the charge sheet, the accused is facing a count of unlawful control of narcotic drugs, contrary to Section 37(1) and (2)(b) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).

The prosecution alleges that on September 30, 2026, at Tantra Hills and within the jurisdiction of the court, the accused had in his control several substances suspected to be narcotic drugs and intended for trafficking without lawful authority.

The items listed in the particulars of the offence include 10 paper wraps containing a whitish substance, 47 toffee-like substances, two tennis-ball-sized portions of a hard dark substance, a quantity of dried plant material concealed in a polythene bag, two oval-shaped portions of dried plant material and two plain rubber wraps containing a dark substance.

The accused is also charged with engaging in prohibited business relating to narcotic drugs, contrary to Section 38(2) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).

Anti-narcotics operation

The prosecution’s brief facts state that the complainants are police officers attached to the IGP Special Operation Team at Police Headquarters.

It says the officers conducted an anti-narcotics operation within the Accra metropolis on September 30, 2026, during which a suspect was arrested at his residence.

A search conducted in the presence of the suspect allegedly resulted in the discovery of several parcels and packages containing substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

Among the items allegedly recovered were six compressed square parcels of dried plant material, eight oval-shaped compressed parcels, 74 plain rubber wraps containing dried plant material and a dispensary envelope containing dried plant material.

The police also allegedly found two blue jerry cans containing liquid mixed with plant material, two white gallons containing liquid substances, eight 750ml bottles and one 500ml bottle containing liquid substances.

In addition, investigators reportedly recovered 26 hard, round, toffee-like substances, which they suspect may have been laced with narcotics.

Police allege admission

The prosecution further claims that during interrogation, the suspect admitted knowledge and ownership of the exhibits.

The statement of offence and particulars identify the accused as King Solomon Mensah Bonsu, aged 52, a caterer, while the accompanying brief facts identify the accused as Patrick Owusu, described as a trader residing at Spintex, Accra.

The supplied document does not explain whether the two names refer to the same person, whether there was an administrative error in the documents, or whether they relate to separate matters.
