Self-proclaimed Chef Ebenezer Smith has issued an unreserved apology to Ghanaians for falsifying his Guinness World Records (GWR) certificate on July 2, 2024.
During a press conference on that date, Chef Smith falsely declared himself the new record holder for the longest individual cooking session, presenting a fake certificate as proof. His alleged record attempt lasted from February 2024 to March 6, 2024.
Following widespread skepticism, Ghanaian media sought verification from GWR, which confirmed that the current record holder remains Alan Fisher from Ireland.
GWR stated that Chef Smith does not hold any title for the longest cooking record and has not been awarded any certificate.
In a forthcoming interview with Accra-based TV, Chef Smith, tearful and remorseful, explained that his actions were driven by desperation and hunger.
He pleaded for forgiveness from Ghanaians, expressing deep regret for his deceit.
“I apologize to the world; I am so sorry. I don’t deserve to live, but my hunger caused my actions and led me to this,” Chef Smith said while sobbing uncontrollably.
His apology has sparked a wave of criticism on social media.
