At the fully packed Parc des Princes in Paris, France and Spain contested an intense finals for gold in men’s football with the host losing 5-3 against the sensational Spain.

France got off to a brilliant start after Arnau Tenas failed to deal with Enzo Millot’s feeble effort in the 11th minute.

Fermin Lopez scored in the 18th and 25th minutes to put Spain ahead. Alex Baena added Spain’s third in the 28th minute to shock Parc de Princes. The Spaniards were in a comfortable lead heading into the break.

Monaco midfielder Magnes Akliouche in the 79th minute scored to give France confidence. At 3-2, Spain thought they had won gold until a penalty was awarded for France with the inform Mateta scoring to make it 3-3 in the 93rd minute. Extra time was needed to seperate the two.

Spain in the extra time scored twice via Vallecano’s Sergio Camello who replaced Abel Ruiz in the 83rd minute. The forward scored in the 100th and 121st minutes to secured a 5-3 win for Spain.

Spain won their first gold medal in football since Barcelona 92 and the second in their history.
