The Citizens defeated their arch rivals Manchester United 7-6 on penalties after 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

Manchester United has been knocking on the doors of Manchester City for so many times and they finally broke the deadlock with just eight minutes to end the game.

The Red Devils squandered a lot of chances with Amand Diallo and Mason Mount failing to put Manchester United ahead in the first half.

McCatee had hit the post for City in the first half as his sumptous strike failed to end at the back of the net.

Both teams went to the break feeling good to lift the shield. The second half got off to an intense start with Manchester United getting the better opportunities.

Marcus Rashford picked up an accurate pass from Garnacho in the box in the 72nd minute and he unleashed a shot with his weaker foot that smashed against the left post.

Alejandro Garnacho took all the Manchester City defenders on and fired home with his left foot into the bottom of the right post to give Manchester United a deserving lead in the 82nd minute.

Manchester City after Norwegian winger Oscar Bobb had produced a brilliant lofted pass from the right wing. The dimunitive Portuguese won the battle against Pellistri as he headed ahead of him to score and level the scorline with just a minute to end the game.

It was a difficult moment for Manchester United as they earlier on thought they were going to lift the shield.

Manchester City won on penalties (7-6) against the Red Devils. Bernardo Silva only missed for Pep Guardiola’s charges while Sancho and Evans missed for Erik Ten Hag’s side.

It was Manchester United’s 10th defeat in the Community Shield as the Citizens won for the first time in four years after losing the last three against Leicester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Manchester United kicks off the new season on Friday night with a fixture against Fulham FC at the Old Trafford.

The Citizens commence their title defense with a trip to London to face Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday 18th August.
