Ghanaians are connected to Sunderland because of Asamoah Gyan’s record breaking move in August 2010. The former Black Stars skipper was loved by the club’s fans after he played 34 games and scored 10 goals for the Black Cats.
Another talented Ghanaian footballer, Abdul Salis Samed, is set to sign for Sunderland.
Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Salis Samed, 24, signed for RC Lens in 2022 from Clermont. He quickly became an integral member of the club helping them secure a place in the 2023-24 UCL season.
However, the young midfielder has lost his place in the team and is rumoured to be on the verge of signing for English Championship side, Sunderland.
Regis Le Bris, the manager of Sunderland has hinted a possible deal for the Ghanaian.
“It is possible with Samed and Aleksic, but it is not [done yet], the manager told Sunderland Echo.”
“We are working hard and I hope that at the end we have a more balanced team, more talented players and so on. We don’t know exactly yet what the situation will be but I’m confident because I think we have a good team with a strong core – and if we can add some specific elements to this core I think that the balance will be better.
“We know that this league is very long with many three-game weeks, so in these situations to have maybe two or three elements more will be interesting for us,” Regis added.
Salis Samed made 27 appearances in the French Ligue 1 for Lens in the 2023-24 season.
Sunderland has won all their three Championship games so far and are optimiatic they can secure promotion back to the Premier League with the acquisition of Samed Salis.
