Paris to dedicate sports venue after late Ugandan runner Rebecca Cheptegei

Anne Hidalgo Aleu, 65, the mayor of Paris since 2014 has expressed her dissapiontment in the brutal murder of Ugandan 33-year-old Marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei.

Rebecca died in the week after suffering a severe burns to almost 80% of her body. She was dosed in a petrol and set on fire by former boyfried, Dickson Ndiem. Cheptegei was hospitalized and was in an Intensive Care Unit but couldn’t win the battle to live.

Speaking on the cruel death of the Ugandan runner, the Paris mayor, Hidalgo said, “She dazzled us here in Paris.

“We saw her. Her beauty, her strength, her freedom, and it was in all likelihood her beauty, strength and freedom which were intolerable for the person who committed this murder,” Hidalgo told reporters.

“Paris will not forget her. We’ll dedicate a sports venue to her so that her memory and her story remains among us and helps carry the message of equality, which is a message carried by the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The late Rebecca Cheptegei finished 44th in the Marathon in the just ended Paris Olympic games.
