Ethiopia is a pioneer in African football as they are one of the few countries that started professional football before 1950. The Ethiopian Football Federation was founded in 1943 and became affiliated with FIFA in 1952.

1957 the Ethiopian Football Federation along with its Egyptian, Sudanese, and South African counterparts founded CAF.

“Ethiopia is a beautiful country. The President H.E Taye Selassie is committed to improving football and its infrastructure”, Motsepe said.

“They’re one of the founding members of CAF. We will look into their proposals at the right time. We thank them for hosting us well.” Dr Patrice Motsepe concluded.

The 2027 AFCON will be co-hosted in East Africa by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Ethiopia’s bid for the 2029 edition will be an incredible news for the region because they have not been hosting the biggest sporting showpiece on the continent since the mid 70s.

Patrice Motsepe thanked Ethiopia for hosting Africa and promised that CAF will consider their bid because they are one of the founding members of CAF and have also shown that they love football.
