Manchester United and England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo recently participated in a special discussion hosted by Apple Music to honor Black History Month.

The event, held at the Apple Store in Arndale, Manchester, provided an engaging platform for Mainoo to share insights about the music that inspires him on and off the pitch, as well as the atmosphere in the Manchester United dressing room.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Mainoo revealed that his mother played a significant role in shaping his musical tastes, particularly through the music of one of Ghana’s most iconic artists, Daddy Lumba.

He noted, “My mom played a lot of Daddy Lumba, and my sisters introduced me to Mindless Behavior,” showcasing the rich and diverse influences that have impacted his life.

The conversation mirrored the relaxed yet insightful tone of a previous event with Marika Hackman, held in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Mainoo delved into the dynamics of music within the United dressing room, discussing who usually controls the playlist and which of his teammates share similar musical preferences. He emphasized the importance of music in fostering a positive atmosphere among the players.

Hosted by Apple Music’s Dotty, the event featured a live performance by rapper Blanco, adding to the celebratory mood.

Mainoo’s participation coincided with the release of his curated playlist for Apple Music’s “The Warm Up” series, which debuted during Euro 2024.
