Sheikh Tophic Sienu, the Communication Manager of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called on Ghanaians to respect Joseph Paintsil's decision
Sheikh Tophic Sienu, the Communication Manager of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called on Ghanaians to respect Joseph Paintsil’s decision to withdraw from the Black Stars squad to face Angola and Niger.
8 players among the initial 25-man squad selected by Otto Addo withdrew from the team due to injuries and personal reasons.
They were replaced by six to make the final squad for November’s international break 23.
Joseph Paintsil stated that his reason to withdraw from the squad is personal leading to speculations from Ghanaians that he is not committed to Black Stars.
Sheikh Tophic Sienu has urged Ghanaians to respect the winger’s decision.
‘We understand the disappointment, but we urge all Ghanaians to respect Joseph Paintsil’s decision.
“Every player has the right to make choices about their career and national team participation,” Sheikh said.
“We appreciate Joseph Paintsil’s contributions to Ghana football and respect his decision. We wish him well in his future endeavours.
“Our focus now shifts to preparing the available players for upcoming matches.
“We encourage fans to support the committed players. Let’s build a positive football”, Sheikh Tophic Sienu concluded.
Wishing Paintsil all the best in his future endeavours is a huge statement that can mean a whole lot. Is the LA Galaxy winger retiring from the national team, or will he return in March 2025?
The Black Stars are in deep crisis after a very poor year. The players withdrawing from Angola and Niger games deepens the pains of the team.
Ghana will face Angola and Niger in rounds 5 and 6 of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
