Niger via head coach Badou Ezzaki confirmed on Wednesday that their chances are not entirely over even though it’s so slim ahead of the Sudan crash in Togo.
At the Stade de Kegue in Lome, it was a complete disaster for James Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan as they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Niger.
The scoreline truly sounds shocking because Sudan has been so sensational in the qualifiers culminating in a 2-0 triumph over the Black Stars in Libya in MD4 of the qualifiers.
Sudan suffered the defeat after being bruised by a coach who knows all about the Sudanese national team after leaving the hot seat in 2023.
Niger has a good start by smashing Sudan 3-0 in the first half. Oumarou’s strike sandwiched Daniel Sosah’s brace to condemn Sudan to an embarrassing 3-0 first-half defeat.
In the second half, Badamassi’s 51st-minute goal ensured that at least Niger will have a say in whoever progresses to the 2025 AFCON from Group F alongside Angola.
Niger now sits third and has a chance also to qualify for the finals. The 1986 African Footballer of the Year’s side will need Angola to beat Ghana on Friday night before travelling to Ghana and any win for them in Accra will qualify them if Sudan loses to Angola on the final day.
Ghana will face Angola in Luanda on Friday night, and whatever happens will impact the chances of any of the three teams aside from the home team.
