Many Ghanaian sports journalists believe Otto Addo does not qualify to be the head coach of the Black Stars because he is known as a scout.
In April 2019, Otto Addo was appointed to work for former club Borussia Dortmund as a ‘talent coach’.
He had previously occupied the same role at Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017 before becoming an assistant coach at Nordsjaelland and Borussia Dortmund.
In 2022, Otto Addo took Ghana to the FIFA World Cup, and it was his first appointment as the main head coach. After the disappointing campaign in Qatar, the former Ghana midfielder resigned. He returned in March 2024, and his second coming has been more than disastrous.
At the post-match conference on Monday evening, a Ghanaian journalist boldly told Otto Addo that he was not a coach but rather a scout.
“You are better at scouting than coaching because, in coaching, you’re not good at all”, said the journalist.
Otto Addo had struggled to blend all the talented players at his disposal. It is not surprising they are doubting his coaching skills.
Nobody knows if Otto Addo will remain as the Head coach of Ghana if the Black Stars return to action in March 2025 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana shockingly lost 2-1 to Niger and subsequently finished bottom of the Group.
