expressed heartfelt admiration for former Black Stars legend Michael Essien, crediting the midfield icon for his life-changing generosity and mentorship.

Mensah, who shared the pitch with Essien during their Black Starlets days, revealed their deep bond, which dates back to secondary school.

Beyond their friendship, Essien’s selflessness and humility have profoundly impacted Mensah’s life and career.

“Michael Essien has been more than just a friend to me,” Mensah shared in an interview with Asempa FM. “He’s been a guardian angel, always willing to lend a helping hand. If I have any property today, I owe it all to Michael Essien.”

Mensah highlighted Essien’s pivotal role in his coaching journey, recounting how the football star sponsored his coaching courses in England.

“He paid a significant amount of money for me to pursue my coaching dreams in Europe. I don’t think any family member would do what Essien has done for me,” Mensah said, his voice filled with gratitude.

Essien, a Chelsea legend and global football icon, left an indelible mark on the sport, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.

For Ghana, he earned 58 caps and scored nine goals, establishing himself as one of the nation’s most celebrated players.

Since retiring, Essien has transitioned into coaching, earning his UEFA license and currently contributing to FC Nordsjaelland’s technical team in Denmark.

Mensah’s glowing tribute underscores the enduring legacy of Essien’s influence, both on and off the pitch.
