The quick-fire format for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers was gruesome, aggressive, energy-sapping and very competitive as it tested how strong and battle-ready African teams are ahead of the 36th edition of the continent’s top sporting event.

After 3 months of intense action in which each country played six games, the 24 teams were finally confirmed.

North African side Morocco, who undoubtedly was the best team in the qualifiers, will host the competition. 7 times winners Egypt, regulars Tunisia and 2019 champions Algeria will make a short trip to Morocco for the tournament.

West African giants Nigeria, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire, alongside regulars Burkina Faso and Mali, qualified after a fruitful campaign.

The biggest country to miss out on the region is the four-time winner, Ghana.

Minnows Benin, Comoros, Tanzania, Botswana, Equatorial Guinea, Uganda and Zimbabwe will be in Morocco in 2025 and 2026

DR Congo, Cameroon, South Africa, Angola, and Zambia all secured a ticket for the competition.

The competition will be played across December 2025 and January 2026. A date for the draw will be communicated by CAF before the year ends.

The 24 countries confirmed for the tournament are;

Morocco (Hosts), Burkina Faso
Cameroon, Algeria
DR Congo, Senegal
Egypt, Angola
Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire
Uganda, South Africa
Gabon, Tunisia
Nigeria, Zambia
Mali, Zimbabwe
