Ghana v Sudan

Venue: Accra Sports Stadium (Accra)

Time: 4 pm ( Thursday 10th October, 24)

It is all or nothing for Ghana and Sudan in the crunch tie at the Accra Sports stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The Black Stars will lock horns against the Falcons of Jediane for a very important three points. The two teams are set to battle in the back-to-back games in the next 5 days which will almost determine the future of one of them.

Angola is on the verge of winning one of the two slots after the incredible wins over these two teams. This makes the tie a win or bust for both Ghana and Sudan.

The Black Stars of Ghana so far

The Black Stars on matchday 1 calamitously lost 1-0 against Angola in matchday 1 of the qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The defeat was a historic one as it was the first defeat for the Black Stars in 24 years at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Milson’s late strike broke Otto Addo’s team down and it affected them psychologically in Berkane when they faced lowly Niger in Matchday 2 of the qualifiers. Niger drew 1-1 with Ghana sending Ghana to third place on the log. Just a point snatched from a possible 6 is not good enough for the Black Stars.

The Falcons of Jediane so far

Sudan sits second after losing 2-1 in Luanda against Angola in their second game of the group. The Falcons of Jediane won 1-0 against Niger in their opening game. Sudan has been in an incredible form since the beginning of the year 2024. They have won 6 out of the 10 games played so far. Three defeats and a draw have been recorded which is very encouraging considering the fact that they don’t play at home due to the civil war.

Otto Addo v Kwesi Appiah

The two head coaches are former Black Stars’ stars and are ready to battle for win for their respective teams. In terms of experience, James Kwesi Appiah has a lot after being an assistant coach for Ghana before enjoying the head coach role in AFCON and World Cup. Otto Addo became the second ever Ghanaian to qualify Ghana for the World Cup after Kwesi Appiah made history in Brazil 2014. Both coaches know what is at stake as defeat can bring problems to their bids to qualify to Morocco 2025.

Player to watch: Ghana

Ghana has many stars in Europe but the man who has lately been the king for the big occasions is Jordan Ayew. The Leicester City forward has scored 6 goals in his last 6 games for Ghana including the sweet hattrick against Central African Republic (4-3) in Kumasi in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifers.

Player to Watch: Sudan

Mohammed Abdul Rahman, 31, has been probably the biggest name in Sudanese football in the last 3 years because of his exploits for Al Hilal. The fomer Al Merreikh striker is the man Kwesi Appiah will rely on to shoot down Ghana albeit he’s yet to score in the two games played so far.

H2H

In all competitions including CHAN (2023) and President’s Cup (1983), Ghana has met Sudan on 14 occasions, the Black Stars have secured 10 wins, 1 draw and lost 3.
