The 4 slots needed by CAF for FIFA to complete the list of nations to play in the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile were completed on Monday as Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco qualified.

All the four quarter-finals fixtures were more than competitive as two were decided on penalties and the other two in the extra 30 minutes.

Nigeria defeated Senegal 3-1 on penalties after a gruelling goalless draw in 120 minutes. The Senegalese scored just one of their four penalties, while the Nigerians scored all three they took.

Egypt capitalised on Ghana’s defensive deficiencies and took a commanding 2-0 lead through Momen Sherif’s brace in the 19th and 27th minute respectively. Abdul Aziz Issah, on the stroke of halftime, pulled one back for the Black Satellites. The first half ended 2-1 with Ghana having the belief that they could bounce back.

Sulemana of Randers scored a 90+11 minute equaliser from the spot to level for Ghana to break the Egyptian’s heart.

The extra time failed to produce a goal as Arron Essel was shown a second yellow card with Ghana ending the game with 10 men.

Egypt won 5-4 on penalties. The host scored all their 5 whilst Ghana scored 4 and missed one.

Amara Keita’s own goal in the 115th minute helped Morocco beat Sierra Leone 1-0 with 10 men.

Supersports’ Thabang Mahlangu scored in the 105th minute for South Africa to pip DR. Congo by a lone goal.

Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa have progressed to the semi-finals and subsequently booked a place in Chile 2025.

South Africa will face Nigeria in the semi-final while Egypt will play their fellow North African side Morocco.
