On Monday, 7th July 2025, the entire Akwatia Constituency was shocked to hear the demise of their Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Sources say Ernest died of a heart attack.
The court banned Ernest after he was sworn in as the new MP for the constituency. A lawsuit filed by NDC’s Henry Boakye-Yiadom led to a court injunction, but Ernest was sworn in. He however failed to respect the court’s decision prompting a bench warrant for his arrest.
Kumi won 19,269 votes against Boakye-Yiadom’s 17,206 in the 2024 General elections.
His family and the ruling NDC have yet to officially comment on his shocking demise.
