The most interesting story you will probably hear in Ghana is a professional footballer who plays for Kumasi Asante Kotoko quitting football to fully focus on Nursing.

That’s the decision former Real Tamale United’s center back Nurudeen Yusif has taken.

Working in Ghana as a nurse is extremely difficult financially, forcing many nurses to seek job in the UK and some parts of the Carribean.

Ghanaian nurses have always complained of poor working conditions and the lack of admiration from the Ghanaian government hence making people question Nurudeen’s decision to quit playing football.

Despite the club’s efforts to persuade the 31-year-old defender to prioritise his football career, Nurudeen decided to practice his nursing profession at the expense of football, per a statement from the club.

An emergency meeting was held on Sunday where the Interim Management Committee (IMC) decided to respect his decision and hence officially parted ways with Nurudeen Yusif.

“The IMC would like to assure our supporters that the club will not suffer any financial or sporting penalties due to this decision and wishes Nurudeen the best for the future,” revealed by the IMC on X.

Nurudeen joined the Porcupine Warriors on a three-year contract ahead of the 2023/24 football season from RTU. He holds a position with the Ghana Health Service as a practising enrolled nurse.
