AFCON 2025 qualifiers: Otto Addo to announce Ghana squad on Wednesday

A Kotoko player was expected in Otto Addo’s 25-man squad for November’s international break but it was not Emmanuel Antwi.

The midfielder’s name appearing in the squad was a bit surprise because Ghanaians did not expect his call-up at the moment.

Goalkeeper Frederick Asare has been part of the Black Stars recently but did not receive a call up due to dip in form.

The former Accra Great Olympics midfielder, Emmanuel Antwi expressed his delight in the invitation to the Black Stars when speaking to Asante Kotoko TV.

“Kotoko has taught me a lot to improve in my career. They’ve given me the big platform to showcase my talent, and I think that’s a good step for me. I’ll keep working hard to make sure I make them proud when I get there,” Antwi promised.

Playing for Asante Kotoko is probably the pinnacle of Ghana’s domestic club football. Their platform has been humongous since the 1970s and it continues to be the biggest. Emmanuel Antwi, 24 has promised to make the Porcupine Warriors proud when hebgets the opportunity at the Black Stars.

Dream come true!!

Flashback to February 5th 2019, the youngster declared his dream of representing the Black Stars one day

He wrote on Facebook: “I have a dream to be part of the Black Stars of Ghana some day. It is the reason i sacrifice my comform for the game. I play football almost everyday and anywhere. Sometimes i play two games in a day. This is all to perfect my skills for what is coming. When you say a prayer, say one for me.

#TheAntwiDream..Please share for me!!”

Emmanuel Antwi’s post five years ago talked about a young boy having a dream to represent his motherland.

He requested a prayer from Ghanaians to help him reach his dream. The dream is now real and Antwi will have the opportunity to have his first taste of the national team when Ghana travels to Luanda to face Angola and host Niger in Accra in the final two games of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Antwi’s first reaction on the call up

“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a very long time, and it’s a dream come true. It shows I made the right decision by joining Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

“I think I’m doing something right that has taken me to this level. I think I can do more.

“Credit goes to our head coach and the technical team as well, and also to the head coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Coach Otto Addo, for keeping an eye on me. Also, credit goes to the players for helping me to improve,” Antwi concluded.
