Two scrap dealers, Naporo Gbulo, 22, and Alhassan Wumbei, 23, have been reportedly killed by a mob in Ntensere, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District, due to accusations of child theft.

Reports indicate that the victims were in the area to buy scrap materials when residents suspected them of trying to abduct a child and took matters into their own hands.

Some members of the community reportedly killed the victims by beating them and also set their motorcycle on fire.

Saramatu Zackaria, the Vice Chairperson of the Unit Committee for the area, confirmed the incident and explained that the victims were killed before she arrived at the location.

“I was at a wedding ceremony when I learned about a mob incident in my electoral district. I hurried to the location, but by the time I got there, the victims had already been killed, and their bodies were still there,” she stated.

The event has brought attention back to the issue of mob justice in Ghana, where people accused of crimes may be harmed without following legal procedures.

Madam Zackaria criticised the action and urged a complete police investigation, emphasising the importance of restraint and adherence to the law.

The Ashanti Regional Scrap Dealers Association has expressed concern regarding a troubling trend of attacks on its members.

This is happening too often in the Ashanti Region. Our members frequently face criticism due to untrue claims.

He expressed that they are not criminals and urged others to stop harming them.

The issue of mob justice needs to be treated with the appropriate level of seriousness. He stated that anyone could be wrongly accused and become a victim of such violence.

The bodies have been taken to the morgue for autopsy, and the police are investigating the incident.
