Ghanaians have paid many taxes in the last four years, there is no two ways about that. The erstwhile government loaded Ghanaians with an unbelievable tax, including E-Levy and Betting Taxes. These two taxes hurt many Ghanaians, but the government led by Nana Akufo-Addo did not mind and continued imposing them.

During John Mahama’s campaign ahead of the 2024 General Elections, the then opposition leader of the NDC promised to abolish these two, much to the joy of Ghanaians, especially punters. In his first three months as the president of the land, John Mahama honoured his promise and abolished e-levy and betting taxes.

The government has introduced a new tax: GHS1 Dumsor Levy, which was passed by parliament on Tuesday, June 3, under a certificate of urgency.

Former vice president of Ghana, Dr Bawumia, who was the flag bearer of the NPP in the 2024 General Elections, has warned Ghanaians to expect more taxes from the ruling NDC.

“The NDC has told a lot of lies. Everyone sees their lies every day. Last night, I hope you all saw it. They have introduced a dumsor levy.”

“With the E-Levy, if you sent GH¢1000, you paid just GH¢10. But now, under the NDC’s dumsor levy, if you buy GH¢1000 worth of fuel, you’ll pay GH¢83 in tax.”

“They scrapped the E-Levy, yes—but replaced it with something way worse. That’s deception, plain and simple,” Bawumia said.

Alhaji Bawumia has accused the ruling party of cheating Ghanaians and also deceiving them.
