It’s the 7th time that Ghana has failed to progress to the knockout round of the FIFA Womens U-20 World Cup.

In the previous 6 (2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2022) editions, Ghana failed to qualify from the group so many thought it was the time to break that jinx.

In Group E of Colombia 2024, Ghana finished third after beating New Zealand 3-1.

The game ended goalless in the first half with frustrations written all over the faces of the Princesses.

In the second half, Yusif Basigis girls stepped up with Salamatu Abdulai scoring twice and Tracy Twum adding the third to ensure an impressive win for Ghana. Even though Ghana did not qualify but the girls are returning home with at least a win.

Ghana finished 5th on the third place table as Canada, Cameroon, South Korea and Argentina all winning four points to qualify to the Round 16 ahead of the Princesses who won just 3 points.

The damage had already been done after Austria beat Ghana 2-0 in game 1 with Japan massacaring the Princesses 4-1 in the second game of the group. Ghana was out even before kicking a ball against New Zealand.
