New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairmanship aspirant Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko has completed the first phase of his nationwide campaign tour after concluding his engagements in the Greater Accra Region, the 16th region visited as part of his efforts to mobilise support ahead of the party’s national elections.
The tour has provided Agyarko with an opportunity to engage regional and constituency executives while presenting his vision for rebuilding the party’s organisational structures and strengthening its electoral machinery ahead of the 2028 general election.
At the centre of his campaign is an ambitious electoral objective: to help the NPP reclaim parliamentary seats lost in recent elections and build a sufficiently strong organisation to support the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in his bid to become President in 2028.
Greater Accra identified as crucial battleground
During his engagements in Greater Accra, Agyarko emphasised the strategic importance of the region to the NPP’s presidential ambitions.
He argued that the party cannot realistically expect to win the presidency without recording a strong performance in the nation’s capital, where constituencies have different demographic, political and socio-economic characteristics.
Rather than adopting a uniform campaign strategy across the region, Agyarko said the NPP must recognise the distinct nature of individual constituencies and develop approaches that respond to their specific circumstances.
His argument is that Greater Accra’s electoral significance requires detailed constituency-level planning rather than broad political slogans.
Welfare and resources at centre of proposed reforms
Agyarko also used the engagement to outline aspects of his proposed welfare policy for party officers.
He said the policy would focus on training, empowering and equipping party officers to perform their responsibilities effectively.
He further stressed the importance of providing the necessary logistical and operational support to constituency structures, arguing that party officials cannot be expected to deliver results without timely access to resources.
Under his proposed approach, resources would be allocated according to the specific needs of constituencies and released on time so that officers can use them when they are most needed.
He argued that delayed support can undermine the ability of constituency structures to make an electoral impact, particularly in competitive areas.
Constituency-specific strategy proposed
Agyarko maintained that winning Greater Accra would require more than campaign rhetoric.
He identified local knowledge, capable party officers, timely resources and constituency-specific strategies as essential components of an effective electoral campaign.
The approach reflects his broader campaign argument that the NPP’s organisational revival must begin at the grassroots and be based on the realities confronting individual constituencies.
His proposed strategy is also linked to his wider objective of rebuilding the party’s electoral machinery ahead of 2028, when the NPP will seek to return to government following its defeat in the 2024 elections.
At the conclusion of his Greater Accra engagements, Agyarko expressed appreciation to the Regional and Constituency Executives for the reception accorded him throughout the tour.
He also acknowledged the endorsements and expressions of support received from party executives during his engagements.
