A fire, reportedly caused by improper storage of petrol, has gutted a five-bedroom residence at Ekumfi Esikumah in Ghana’s Central Region.

The incident occurred on February 26, 2026, destroying key parts of the home, including the kitchen, provision store, and several personal belongings.

Firefighters from the Mankessim Fire Station responded promptly to the emergency, containing the blaze before it could spread to neighboring buildings.

Investigations so far indicate that the fire was triggered when petrol stored inside the house came into contact with a heat source.

Despite the damage, one bedroom and some of its contents were salvaged. Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries or fatalities.

Residents are being urged to exercise caution when storing flammable substances to prevent similar accidents in the future.
