Carlos Queiroz has been given the honour of leading Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a thorough search for a coach since Otto Addo was sacked.
The 73-year-old tactician has penned a four-month contract with Ghana with an option to win a further two-year deal if he can take Ghana to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Sending a message to Ghanaians soon after he was confirmed as the new coach, the veteran tactician expressed his gratitude to the GFA.
“It is with a deep sense of gratitude to GFA, responsibility and humility that I embrace this new chapter with the National Football Team of Ghana,” he said.
He continued, “Football has given me a lifetime of challenges, lessons, and unforgettable journeys, all over the world. Today, I accept this mission with the same passion and commitment that have guided me throughout my career,” he stated. Carlos Queiroz is a globetrotter in football, having worked in Portugal, England, Spain, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Oman, Colombia, and Japan.
“Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul. I arrive with respect for its history and belief in its future,” he said, underlining his intention to build on the Black Stars’ legacy.
“Together, with unity, discipline, and ambition, we will work to honour the expectations of a great football nation,” he added.
“This is not just another job — it is a mission. And I am ready to give everything of my experience and knowledge once again, in service of the game and the happiness of people,” he concluded.
Queiroz has said that he is on a mission to send Ghana to the promised land. Ghanaians wish to see their beloved Black Stars return to the good days under the Portuguese.
Carlos Queiroz will get the opportunity to meet his squad for the first time in May when Ghana meet Mexico and Wales in the final preparation games for the World Cup.
The Black Stars will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
