Chief Executives of selected state institutions are set to face a reshuffle as President John Dramani Mahama intensifies efforts to strengthen leadership, accountability and coordination across government.
The development follows the recent dissolution of the boards of selected state institutions and fresh ministerial changes announced by the President.
In a notice to all Ministers and political appointees, Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, said the recent changes, together with the impending reshuffle of Chief Executives, reflected President Mahama’s determination to strengthen institutional leadership and ensure that government appointees remained aligned with the administration’s policies and priorities.
“The recent ministerial changes and the dissolution of selected boards, together with the impending reshuffle of Chief Executives, reflect the President’s determination to strengthen institutional leadership, enhance coordination and ensure that every appointee remains fully aligned with the Government’s policies and priorities,” the notice stated.
The warning signals that the changes at the board level could be followed by significant changes in the executive leadership of state institutions.
The President also expects Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Executives, board members and other political appointees to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, diligence and humility, while respecting established administrative procedures.
The Secretary to the President cautioned that conduct that undermines government cohesion, institutional authority or the effective implementation of government policy would not be tolerated.
“All appointees are reminded that public office is a privilege and an opportunity to serve the Ghanaian people,” the notice said.
It added that the performance of appointees across all sectors would continue to be assessed and that the President would take any further action necessary to safeguard the integrity, effectiveness and responsiveness of his administration.
The latest warning comes after President Mahama dissolved the boards of nine state institutions, including the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, TDC Ghana Limited and the National Sports Authority.
The boards of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited and the Road Maintenance Trust Fund were also dissolved.
The Presidency has indicated that the affected boards will be reconstituted in due course.
The Secretary to the President urged all appointees to cooperate and remain committed to delivering the government’s mandate.
“All appointees are expected to cooperate and commit as we work together to deliver the Government’s mandate and improve the lives of the Ghanaian people,” Dr Mahama said.
