President John Dramani Mahama marked his 67th birthday on Saturday with a compassionate gesture that has resonated across the country.
In a tradition he has maintained over the years—both during and outside of political office—the President chose to celebrate not with grandeur, but with acts of service aimed at uplifting vulnerable children in healthcare facilities.
Accompanied by his wife, Lordina Mahama, and their children, the President visited the children’s wards of two major health institutions in Accra: the LEKMA Hospital at Teshie and the Maamobi General Hospital.

His visit formed part of a long-standing personal commitment to bringing hope to sick children and their families, especially during significant celebrations.
At both facilities, Mahama donated assorted gifts, essential supplies, and cash to each child on admission, extending the gesture to their families as well.
The President personally interacted with the children, offering words of encouragement and expressing optimism about their recovery.
For many families, the unexpected gesture provided emotional relief in a period often characterised by anxiety and financial strain.
In addition to supporting patients, President Mahama acknowledged the tireless dedication of health professionals.
He presented monetary gifts to staff at each facility to appreciate their round-the-clock service, particularly as the healthcare system continues to navigate high patient loads and resource constraints.
A particularly touching moment occurred at LEKMA Hospital, where the President facilitated the referral of a young girl to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for specialised care—an intervention her family described as life-changing.
Staff at both LEKMA Hospital and Maamobi Polyclinic expressed profound gratitude, noting that the President’s decision to spend his birthday with them not only lifted morale but also reaffirmed the importance of community-centred leadership.
