Brazil’s struggle continued against the much improved Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the Copa America early on Sunday morning at the Allegiant Stadium in Nevada.

The game failed to produce the entertainment many football fans had expected. Few chances were created among the two teams with Brazil head coach Dorival Jnr been frustrated on the touchline.

Brazil failed to capitalized on Nahitan Nandez’s red card in the 70th minute after he received a straight red card on an opponent.

Uruguay managed to defend with 10 men even though Brazil did not trouble them with a man’s advantage.

Militao and Douglas Luiz missed for Brazil while Jose Giminez missed for Uruguay. Marcelo Bielsa’s charges won 4-2 on penalties and secured a semi-finals berth.

Colombia pulverised Panama 5-0 as expected. Colombia’s performance was scintillating after five different scorers massacred Panama. Playmaker James Rodrigues was in an incredible form after scoring from the spot kick and assisting John Cordoba and Luis Diaz to score in the first half. Richard Rios and Miguel Borja in the second half scored Colombia’s fourth and fifth goals to finish off Panama.

Canada won 4-3 on penalties against Venezuela after drawing 1-1 in regulation time. Jacob Shaffelburg opened the scoring for Canada in the 13th minute with Salomon Rondon equalising for Venezuela in the 65th minute. History was made by Canada after reaching their first ever semi-finals in the Copa America.

Defending champions Argentina won 4-2 on penalties against Ecuador. Lautaro Martinez’s first half strike was cancelled by Kevin Rodriguez’s 91st minute strike after Enner Valencia had missed a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

In the penalty shootout, Lionel Messi missed Argentina’s first whilst Mena and Minda missed Ecuador’s first two penalties. The defending champions went ahead to record a victory thanks to Emi Martinez’s heroics.

In the semi-finals, Argentina will play against Canada while Colombia and Uruguay will lock lorns.
