After completing his prison sentence, the former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves has been acquitted of rape charges.

Previously valued at $60 million, Alves’ career fell apart following accusations of rape in a nightclub bathroom in Barcelona. At 39, he spent 14 months in Brian’s 2 Prison.

Life continues as if nothing occurred—especially for the woman who significantly impacted his life, who remains free.

Dani has lost everything—his entire life, including his family. From the outset, he faced an unfair situation as a man.

He lost millions as sponsors like Puma severed ties with him, and lawsuits piled up, including a $2.2 million lawsuit from Pumas UNAM. His marriage to Joana Sanz also fell apart, leading to a divorce filing in 2024.

In February 2024, he was convicted under Spain’s stringent consent laws, primarily based on the accuser’s allegations, receiving a 4.5-year prison sentence and ordered to pay €150,000 in damages (partially funded by supporters, including Neymar’s family). Despite claiming his innocence, Alves appealed the verdict.

On March 28, 2025, Catalonia’s High Court unanimously reversed his conviction, pointing out “flaws and inaccuracies” in the evidence, inconsistencies in the woman’s account, and the absence of supporting proof. After 839 days behind bars, he was released.

Meanwhile, the accuser remains anonymous and has not faced charges for her unsubstantiated claim.

Daniel Alves has played for Sevilla, Barcelona, PSG, Juventus and the Brazilian national team.
