The son of former Brazillian 1994 FIFA World Cup star, Iorma do Nascimento a.k.a MAZINHO, has confirmed his retirement from football at age 33.

Born in Italy, Thiago Alcantara, the former Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool midfielder endured a horrible season for Liverpool after making just 1 appearance in the league in the entire 2023-24 season due to a series of injuires.

Alcantara wrote on social media: “I will always be willing to give back what I have been given and I am grateful for the time I have enjoyed.

“Thank you, football. And to all who accompanied me and made me a better player and person along the way.

It was very clear that the talented midfielder was never going to spend much years in football because he has been suffering so many injuries throughout his career.

Alcantara made just 51 top-flight starts in his four campaigns at Anfield.

In an illustrous career, Alcantara won 4 Laliga titles with Barcelona, a UEFA Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup.

In Germany with Bayern, the
33-year-old won 7 Bundesliga titles, 4 DFB Pokals, one UCL title and a Club World Cup.

Thiago won Community Shield and FA Cup trophies for Liverpool in his four years stay at Anfield.

At the international level, Alcantara won with Spain UEFA U-17 and U-21 championships.
